FAQ'S
Why Measure sportsDrive?
Striving for a professional career in sports requires athletes to fully concentrate on this goal. For many years, it asks them to set other things aside, to invest their full energy on training and competition, to change their lifestyle, and to work-out even when they feel tired and burned out. Sports Achievement Motivation, or the sports drive is one of the major mental requirements to master this goal. Studies have shown that Sports Drive is related to longer and more successful careers in sports—it gives you the will and the energy to hold on to reach the top.
Why Is The Sports Performance Indicator Better Than Other Existing Tests?
The SPI as an absolutely new test in the sports world goes way beyond previous approaches. Compared to existing tests, the SPI captures a much broader and exhaustive construct. With its 16 dimensions, it covers all relevant aspects of Sports Drive. Therefore, in predicting sports behavior as well as sports-specific performance, it captures more and additional relevant information. sportsDrive products have proven their ability to predict athletic performance in various scientific studies.
This enables the SPI not only to measure sports motivation, but also to predict crucial training behavior, sports performance, dedication, and success.
Is It Possible To Cheat On The Test?
Like any overt personality test, the SPI cannot prevent the possibility of cheating. In diagnostic situations people often try to make themselves look better and many times they tend to answer in a more socially desired way. However, since many people have this tendency, it’s not an important factor in the average. It has been shown that the SPI is valid in predicting sports performance – even in diagnostic situations. And in the end, that’s what counts.
What Makes It Valid?
A test is considered valid when it’s predicting the important outcomes it is intended to predict. In several scientific studies, the results of the SPI showed a strong relationship to other athletic measurements such as:
- Self-evaluated sports performance and success
- Work-out frequency and duration
- Positive changes in lifestyle
- Grade in PE
- Objectively measured performance in several sports, p. ex. marathon, golf, hockey.
This makes a test valid.
Why Should You Use It?
You should use the SPI because it helps you to find the athletes who truly have the mental requirements that are needed in competitive sports. The detailed feedback you’ll get for each individual will help you and your athlete to determine his/her individual strengths and weaknesses so you can help a good athlete get even better.
What Are The Validity Measurements Of sportsDrive?
All 16 dimensions are covered in the SPI Advanced. The SPI Advanced is proven to provide highly reliable and valid results. What does this mean? To be more precise, the SPI advanced is shown to be a consistent measuring instrument (α = .96). Moreover, meaningful relationships to other sport-specific motivation tests can be demonstrated, p. ex. the Sport Orientation Questionnaire, SOQ (Gill & Deeter, 1988). The measuring aim of the SOQ is similar though less extensive then the SPI solutions, being comprised of three distinct scales – competitive, goal, and win orientation. The correlation with this test is, as supposed to be, in a medium range (r = .57). First and foremost, the SPI Advanced can predict important athlete outcomes and results like training duration (r = .37), self-rated success in sports (r = .46) and actual sports performance in various sports (marathon time with r = -.21) – over and above other sports-specific measurements.
