Prof. Dr. Heinz Schuler
Prof. Dr. Heinz Schuler, born in Vienna, holds the chair of psychology at Hohenheim University, Stuttgart, since 1982. Dr. Schuler earned his Ph. D. as well as the Habilitation at the University of Augsburg, followed by a professorship at the University of Erlangen – Nuremberg in 1979. Prof. Schuler is member of both, the German Psychological aAsociation (BDP) and the American Psychological Association (APA).

Prof. Schuler's research interests are in the field of personnel psychology, especially personnel selection and assessment. He authored or edited some 500 publications, among them the two volumes "Organizational Psychology" within the Encyclopaedia of Psychology (in German) and the Achievement Motivation Inventory AMI (translated to appx. 20 languages such as Hebrew, Polish, Russian, French, Korean, Chinese and others). Besides that, Heinz Schuler is editor or co-editor of several journals and book series. In 2002 he became founding editor of the Zeitschrift fuer Personalpsychologie (Journal of Personal Psychology). For two decades, he chaired the ethics committees of both German psychological associations and is still serving as a consultant and reviewer for a large number of scientific journals and science foundations.

Among Schuler's theoretical innovations is the concept of social validity which initiated growing interest in an individual perspective of personnel selection and assessment processes. Another important invention is the Onion-Ring-Model of Achievement motivation which formed the basis both the Achievement Motivation Inventory as well as for the sports related test "Sportbezogener Leistungsmotivationstest SMT". A methodological breakthrough was the Multimodal Interview MMI® that combines advantages of structured and unstructured interviewing to a selection instrument of high validity and acceptance. Prof. Schuler invented the multimodal model of diagnostics and besides the MMI® transferred its application to all processes of personnel selection as well as to Performance Management / Performance Appraisal and Sports Psychology.

Besides his academic career, Dr. Schuler acts as a consultant for public and private institutions such as BMW, Credit Suisse, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Daimler, Volkswagen or Swiss Life.
